(1) ILP "Participation" - MOOC
During this particular Independent Learning Project, I decided to participate in a MOOC, which stands for Massive Open Online Course. MOOCs are free and vary in duration and topic. I did a lot of searching to be able to find a decent MOOC that didn't take over a month to complete, and still had an interesting topic. After what felt like forever, I finally came across a website that had hundreds of different MOOCs to choose from. This website is Class Central, and it led me to a different website that held my "Learn How to Play Chess" MOOC. I have never played chess before in my life, and I thought "hey why not learn now". Turns out it is a lot more complicated than I was expecting it to be! This course was really cool because they gave you quizzes after every section to ensure you knew the information. The quizzes were very helpful and awesome! There were different paths you were able to take, and I decided to take the "Getting Started" path since I am very much a beginner! You need an account in order to participate in this MOOC.

I absolutely love that you found a MOOC about playing chess! I am a big fan of chess myself and would love to give this a try. Did you by any chance get an opportunity to play? I learned how chess worked through playing several games. It's a fun way to pass the time!
ReplyDeleteAn additional comment, I really liked how you input your notes into this post. How did you do that?
ReplyDeleteI honestly didn't have enough time to play! I hope to one day! But I embedded the word document into my blog! I had to upload it into google drive, make it a shareable link, and then get the HTML code in order to embed it! Then in blogger, you have to change it to HTML and paste the link into your blogger! Also, if that was confusing, a good google search helps too :)
DeleteI originally wanted to do a MOOC for my ILP but couldn't find something I was interested that wouldn't take too long. Your blog has definitely helped me learn how to use a MOOC and gave a good resource for several MOOCs. I love that you took notes an embedded them in the post. Something cool that you could do in the future is maybe post a YouTube video of you playing online chess... I would watch it and it could potentially help others learn through your experiences.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you could do something like this, but a lot shorter and a lot less boring!

Great job!
